“Fishing With Dad” Event Planned Sunday at Ariel-Foundation Park

Families are invited to celebrate Father’s Day weekend outdoors during a free community fishing event at Ariel-Foundation Park.

The Knox County Fatherhood Commission will host “Fishing With Dad” on Sunday, June 21, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Ariel-Foundation Park, located at 10 Pittsburgh Avenue in Mount Vernon.

The free event welcomes fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, mentors, and all father figures to spend an afternoon fishing and making memories with children.

Children attending the event will receive a free fishing rod, reel, and tackle kit while supplies last, giving many young anglers an opportunity to enjoy the sport for the first time.

Officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will also be on site to provide fishing instruction, answer questions, and help families throughout the afternoon.

In addition to fishing, organizers will offer a free do-it-yourself picnic lunch and provide resource information for fathers and families.

The Knox County Fatherhood Commission says the event is designed to encourage families to spend quality time together while promoting the important role fathers and positive male role models play in the lives of children.

No registration information was listed, and participation is free for the community. Organizers encourage families to arrive early, as the free fishing equipment will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
