Old Bag of Nails Pub, located at 66 North Sandusky Street, will serve its final customers Sunday, October 11. The restaurant announced the closure this week, saying it was unable to reach a long-term agreement with the property’s landlord that would allow the business to continue operating.
The Delaware location opened in 2004 and has been a fixture of the downtown restaurant scene for more than 20 years. The original 20-year lease expired in 2024, and the restaurant has operated under a month-to-month arrangement since then.
According to Columbus Business First, Old Bag of Nails had hoped to negotiate a long-term lease and even made an offer to purchase the more than 6,000-square-foot building. That offer was not accepted.
Without a long-term commitment to the property, company officials said it did not make sense to invest in the upgrades and other improvements the building needed.
Old Bag of Nails Vice President of Strategy and Growth Abigail Stellern said the company still sees Delaware as a strong market and hopes the closure isn’t permanent.
The company is working to give employees the opportunity to transfer to other Old Bag of Nails locations if they wish to remain with the company.
The restaurant encouraged Delaware residents to visit during its final week and support the staff who have served the community for more than two decades.
Old Bag of Nails also left the door open to a future return, saying that if an opportunity to open another location in Delaware presents itself, the company would be happy to come back.
The Delaware restaurant is scheduled to remain open through Sunday, with posted Sunday hours of noon to 9 p.m.
