Mid-Ohio ESC Highlights Workforce Training and Career Opportunities for Students

The Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is working with area educators, employers and community leaders to strengthen the connection between students and the region’s workforce.

The Mid-Ohio ESC Business Advisory Council recently brought together representatives from education, business and economic development for a discussion focused on workforce planning, career-connected learning and student training opportunities.

The September 30 meeting in Mansfield included updates on workforce initiatives and economic development efforts across the region. Participants also discussed upcoming opportunities designed to help students gain exposure to local careers and develop skills that employers are seeking.

The effort is part of a broader push by schools and workforce organizations to give students more opportunities to explore careers before graduating.

Career-connected learning can include job-shadowing, internships, career exploration events, work-based learning and partnerships between schools and local employers.

The Mid-Ohio ESC serves school districts throughout the region and works with community partners on programs designed to support both students and educators.

Officials say continued collaboration between schools and employers is important as local businesses face changing workforce needs and students consider their options after high school.

The September meeting also provided an opportunity for educators and employers to discuss upcoming initiatives and identify additional ways students can connect classroom learning with potential careers.
