The Knox County Foundation has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to 484 students for the 2026-2027 academic year, continuing its mission of supporting educational opportunities throughout Knox County and beyond.
This year, the foundation distributed a total of $1,303,650 through its extensive scholarship program, benefiting students at every stage of their educational journey. Awards were provided to graduating high school seniors, current college students, non-traditional learners returning to school, and adult graduate students pursuing advanced degrees.
Of the total recipients, 217 high school seniors received a combined $433,400 in scholarship funding. An additional 241 college students were awarded $770,350, while several non-traditional and graduate students also received support to continue their education and career advancement.
The Knox County Foundation administers more than 160 scholarship funds established by local families, businesses, organizations, and individuals who are passionate about investing in future generations.
“Scholarships are one of the many ways we invest in the future of our community,” said Kara Ernsberger, Program Coordinator for the Knox County Foundation. “These awards help remove financial barriers for students while encouraging them as they pursue their educational and career goals.”
For many recipients, the scholarships represent more than financial assistance.
Madigan Caudill said the support has helped provide the stability needed to focus on academics while avoiding student debt.
“Thanks to their generosity, I am happy to say I am on track to graduate debt free,” Caudill said.
Emily Opfer, who is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, said the foundation’s support has helped her throughout both her undergraduate and graduate studies.
“The Knox County Foundation scholarship has helped support me throughout my undergraduate and graduate level educational endeavors,” Opfer said. “I am so grateful for the support my community has provided me.”
Recipients represent school districts throughout Knox County, including Mount Vernon, Fredericktown, Centerburg, East Knox, Danville, Utica, and surrounding communities.
