Oakes named NCAC Golfer of the Week

CLEVELAND — The North Coast Athletic Conference announced Tuesday that Kenyon College first-year Jonathan Oakes was selected as the Golfer of Week based on his performance in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.

During the three-round tournament, which started Friday and concluded Sunday at the par-71 King and Prince Golf Course on St. Simons Island, Georgia, Oakes helped the Owls to a team finish that put them in a tie for 11th place among a field of 30 teams, many of which were nationally-ranked.

Oakes led the team with a three-round total of 219. He put up a 73 the first round, which included three birdies. He carded another three birdies during the second round, posting an even-par 71, and then wrapped things up with a 75 in the third and final round.

Oakes’ score placed him in an individual tie for 15th place in a field of 150 golfers.

With 19 rounds played in this 2023-24 season, Oakes currently leads the team with a 73.05 scoring average and a pair of top-10 individual finishes.
