Kenyon men gain ITA academic accolades

TEMPE, Ariz. – A half dozen members of the Kenyon College men’s tennis program earned Scholar-Athlete recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Making the list of honorees for the 2023-24 academic year were Christophe Leblanc, Eliezer Gonzalez, Gianluca Bocanegra, Harshal Rukhaiyar, Eric Zhang and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling.

To be eligible for the annual ITA Scholar-Athlete award, individuals had to possess a grade point average of 3.50 or better for the 2023-24 academic year and had to have been enrolled at the same college or university for at least two semesters.

The individual honor was the third for Leblanc and Rukhaiyar, while Gonzalez and Zhang are now both two-time winners.

In addition to the individual awards, the Owls earned recognition as an ITA All-Academic Team. That award went to ITA programs that had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or better.

The 11 student-athletes on the Owls’ roster combined to post a grade point average of 3.44 for the 2023-24 academic year. The team award was the Owls’ eighth in a row and their 17th since the 2000-01 campaign.

On the courts, the Kenyon men produced a 14-6 record, were the runner-up in the North Coast Athletic Conference race and capped off the season with a No. 25 national rank.
