Cardington Lincoln beat Elgin to reach the District Final in Division 6 of Girls High School hoops but a tough second half doomed the Pirates in a 59-36 loss to Harvest Prep. The Pirates finish up the season 11-13. Adjoa Acheampong got things started with a score for the Warriors but a quick 3 but Morgan Powell showed the Pirates were going nowhere. Acheampong got another bucket before Powell hit a pair from the line to give the Pirates the lead back. Janay Carter got a score to get Harvest Prep back on top and Maliyah Lofton got her first points with a three to give the Warriors a 9-5 lead with 222 to go in the quarter. Madison Caulkins closed the gap to 2 with a score but Janiyah Wilson pushed it back to 4 before Abigail Hardwick got her first points for the Pirates to get within to but Jordyn Johnson scored to push the Warriors lead to 13-9 after one.
Carter opened the second quarter with a three and Lofton followed with a two and Israelle Smith scored to go up 19-9 with 427 left in the half. Ludyn Blevins hit a pair of free throws for the Pirates but Carter scored back to back buckets including a three to push the lead to 24-11 with 316 to go in the half. The Pirates then went on an 8-0 run with two scores by Alexis Longsdorf and Madison Caulkins to get with 5 with 50 seconds left in the half. Kelis Crawford made a free throw for the Warriors to make it 25-19 Warriors at the half.
Lofton went crazy in the third hitting five triples as Harvest Prep outscored the Pirates 21-6 in the third to go up 46-25 after three. The Warriors hit 6 threes in the period.
In the fourth the lead ballooned to 28 after Carter hit two free throws and a got a score and Janiyah Wilson added a bucket and Carter scored again with 432 left. Hardwick hit four straight free throws to cut into the lead. The Pirates got a two from Keely Pearl and a three by Natalee Foltz made it 57-36. Harvest Prep would get one more bucket to make it a 59-36 final.
Lofton had 22 unofficially despite only scoring in two quarters for the Warriors. Hardwick had 8 for the Pirates.
