Unlock the Best of Summer: Public Library of Mount Vernon Events 2024

The Public Libraries of Knox County has a packed summer of fun activities for all ages to get Knox County reading this summer. The Summer reading program kicks off May 31 and goes until July 12. For kids kindergarten to fifth grade there are several events over the course of the summer to keep kids reading while school is out. To register for the reading program stop by the children’s floor at the Public Library of Mount Vernon where you will receive a reading log and goal and children who meet that goal can bring the log in and get a free book courtesy of Park National Bank. Some other events the library will be holding is 24 month and up story time every Tuesday in June at 10 am and Wednesdays in June at 10 am is Baby Storytime for children up to 24 months of age. For kids up to sixth grade is the elementary program at the Schnormeier Event Center every Thursday at 10 am with different guest each week. Some guest in the upcoming weeks is The Works on June 6, Sue the Bubble Lady on June 13, and Wild World Zoo on June 27. Then to wrap up the summer program the library will be having a party in the parking lot on July 12 from 10am to noon. The library will also have Passport on a Plate every Monday starting June 3 from 4:30-5:30 pm. They will also have Outdoor Explorers on Tuesdays starting June 4 from 4:30-5:30 pm as well. Registration begins May 20th and is required to participate in these events. There are events for teenagers this summer as well, they have a summer reading program with a chance to win a free book as well as plenty of workshops to tune in to their inner author. There is a Teen Character Creation Night on June 3 from 1-5 pm and a Minatare Make and Paint on June 10 from 1-5 pm. Not only is there a Teen Reading Program but a Writing Program as well on Wednesdays 2-3 pm starting June 12. Teens can also join Mount Vernon Library to celebrate award winning author Mindy McGinnis as well as a chance to win her new book “Under This Red Rock”.

Kids and teens aren’t the only one who can enjoy reading events this summer. There is an Adult reading program with chances to win prizes such as Columbus Zoo membership and $50 gas card, Knox County Brews & Books Adventure: Explore Knox County Coffee Shops and Book Stores, Grand Hotel stay & Harmony Salt Spa package, or two cruiser bikes. There is also a Five Book Challenge reading log with an opportunity to win $100, $75, or $50 Visa. There is a Movie Night May 28 showing “Gran Turismo”, a showing of “Cleopatra” on June 4, and a showing of “The Mummy” on June 11 all beginning at 7 pm. An adult book discussion will be help on June 18 of the book “The Mummy Cases” by Elizabeth Peters on June 18. Author Brandon Weis will be there June 20 to talk about his new book “This is Gonna Hurt” at 1 pm. Adult Craft and Conversation will be held on Thursdays from 6-730 pm and an Adult Summer Craft on June 12 at 10 am to make an outdoor wire basket solar light chandelier. Other general events the library will be hosting is the Red Cross Blood Drive from 11am-4pm on June 15 and donators will receive a $15 e-gift card.
