On August 14th, 2024 at approximately 10:02 PM officers of the Mount Vernon Police
Department responded to an apartment building at 105 South Gay Street on a requested
welfare check.
Upon their arrival the officers made contact with the reporting persons. When the
officers entered the apartment two adult victims, one male and one female, were located.
Both individuals were deceased at this time and there were no other persons in the residence.
The building was then secured as a crime scene.
Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department were called to the scene, along
with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the Knox County
Coroner’s Office and the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the
community.
As the investigation continues, further details of the incident will be released as
appropriate. In accordance with the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s
identifications will not be released.
