Two dead in separate Morrow County Crashes

Mount Gilead- The Mount Gilead Post is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 4:28 PM, on State Route 97 near State Route 288, in North Bloomfield, Morrow County.
Matthew A. Kingseed, age 24 of Galion Ohio was operating a 2012 Honda Accord eastbound on State Route 97. Kyle S. Jackson, age 37 of Galion Ohio was operating a 1998 Honda Goldwing motorcycle traveling westbound on State Route 97. Mr. Kingseed traveled left of center after negotiating a curve and struck Mr. Jackson Head-on. Mr. Jackson was transported to Ohio Health Mansfield where he was pronounced deceased.


Mr. Jackson was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Mr. Kingseed was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries. It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Morrow County EMS, Iberia Joint Fire District, Morrow County Sheriff Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.


The crash remains under investigation.

Troy Township – The Mount Gilead Post is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 06:06 AM, on State Route 314 near Township Road 49, Troy Township, Morrow County.


Joseph Oman, age 51, of Mount Gilead Ohio, was operating a 2008 Harley Davidson Road Glide northbound on State Route 314. John Thauvette, age 47, of Shelby Ohio, was operating a 2005 Honda Civic southbound on State Route 314. Timothy Hale, age 27, Mansfield Ohio, was operating a 2013 Chevrolet 2500 HD southbound on State Route 314. Mr. Oman went left of center on a double yellow line and struck Mr. Thauvette head-on. Mr. Hale struck Mr. Thauvatte in the rear.

Mr. Oman was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. Mr. Oman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Mr. Thauvette and Mr. Hale were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Mr. Thauvette sustained serious injuries and was transported to Med Central in Mansfield by EMS. Mr. Hale sustained no injuries from the crash. It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash.


The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Johnsville Fire, Troy Township EMS, Iberia EMS, Morrow County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.


The crash remains under investigation.
