The Works Announces New Executive Director

The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art and Technology is pleased to announce
Frederick Boll as the newly appointed Executive Director. After a thorough search, The Works Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Boll, who brings over three decades of dynamic leadership in recreation, education, and nonprofit management to his new role. Boll will officially join The Works on August 1, 2025.
“On behalf of The Works Board, we are thrilled to welcome Fred Boll as the new Executive Director of The
Works,” said Board Chair Susan Archer. “Fred has extensive experience in museum leadership and a passion for community collaboration. We are confident that Fred’s vision and expertise will build on our strong foundation and lead us into our next chapter of innovation and growth.”
A passionate advocate for experiential learning and community enrichment, Fred’s career has been defined by his ability to transform ideas into thriving, people-centered programs and institutions. Since 2013, Boll has served as Executive Director of the Buckeye Imagination Museum, in Mansfield, Ohio, where his leadership helped the museum grow as a beloved community hub for creativity and play. During his time there, he led a successful capital campaign and strategy to build a new facility, completed in fall of 2023.
“It is with immense excitement and gratitude that I step into this new role at The Works,” said Boll, The Works’ incoming Executive Director. “It’s an honor to lead this extraordinary institution, with its deep roots as a beacon of creativity, learning, and community engagement.”
Originally from Wheelersburg, a small town in southern Ohio, Fred grew up as the ninth of eleven children in a bustling, close-knit family. He attended Ashland University on a football scholarship, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation.
Fred’s professional journey began in the field of adventure education, leading young people into transformative outdoor experiences—from backpacking in the Rockies to canoeing and horse-packing across Michigan. These formative years shaped his commitment to experiential learning and team development.

In 1992, Fred took on a leadership role at Mohican State Park Resort and Conference Center, where he served for years in multiple capacities, including Director of Operations. His talent for operations management and flexibility to lead across disciplines became hallmarks of his career.
Fred is also a devoted family man, married to his wife Ellen since 1997. Together, they have two children, Cecilia and Eric, and share a love of learning, laughter, and outdoor adventures.
“I look forward to getting to know the incredible Works team and community of supporters,” said Boll. “We will continue to build on our mission to inspire creativity and wonder by delivering extraordinary experiences in history, art, and science. Together, we’ll shape a unique and exciting vision for the future.”
