The Latest Infrastructure Projects Shaping Mount Vernon

Starting tomorrow, a few of Mount Vernon’s streets will be closed for repairs. Harnewell St, Howard St., and Huckleberry Alley will be closed for sanitary sewer repairs. Harrison Ave, Roosevelt Ave, Pattison Ave, Cleveland Ave, and Ohio Ave will all be close for road resurfacings. Catherine St is still closed with no new updates but is on schedule. In other developments, Columbia Gas will be on the North Side replacing lines for the Community Development Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is underway, giving city council a rough idea of developments and plans for Mount Vernon within the next five to seven years. There is a Special Municipal Planning Commission on Thursday at City Hall at 4 pm, zoning code updates will be spoke and voted on. Affordability of housing has been a big conversation so this plan will assist in making the price of living more affordable. The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council has been very successful, giving the future of our local government an opportunity to have an inside look at how local government works and ignites a passion for politics and helping out ones community. Today is also the last day for public comments on West End Community Revision, it will be open to the public at City Hall until 1 pm. Finally, this Friday is the First Friday event held on the square from 6pm-9pm will be a throwback to the bodacious 80’s. There will be vendors, music, and other fun activities everyone can come and participate in and just enjoy the atmosphere of Mount Vernon. There will also be an AC/DC tribute band titled Thunderstruck at Ariel Foundation Park on June 22.
