Police in Newark warn of New Scam circulating

NEWARK, OHIO – On Monday, September 23, 2024, Newark Division of Police received
several complaints/reports with a new SCAM circulating in our community.

The scammers are impersonating “Sergeant Darrin Logan” and claiming you did not
appear for a court subpoena. They also claim they have your signature on the subpoena. The
scammers are demanding money from you to pay for a handwriting comparison. The scammers
are demanding you pay up to $6,000 in bit coin to avoid criminal charges.

No legitimate law enforcement officer will ever ask for money or personal information
over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately.
