Newark Police Investigating Death

NEWARK, OHIO –Newark – On Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 12:31am, officers with the Newark
Division of Police were called to 214 Eddy Street, Newark, on a report of an unresponsive
female in the back seat of a vehicle. Officers arrived on scene to find a female not breathing with
obvious signs of trauma from a suspected assault. Officers observed numerous contusions and
abrasions in various stages of healing, some of these appeared to have been recently caused.
Officers immediately provided life saving measures until the arrival of medics with the Newark
Division of Fire and EMS. Medics were able to obtain a pulse and transported the female to
Licking Memorial Hospital, where she was later flown by emergency helicopter to Grant
Medical Center, in Columbus.

Newark Police Detectives were called to investigate the injuries to the victim who was identified
as 21 year old female of Newark. Detectives obtained search warrants for the vehicle and the
residence of 22 year old, Andrew Hoskinson, of Newark. Detectives interviewed Andrew
Hoskinson and obtained evidence of domestic violence, to include information that the victim
had been strangled as part of the ongoing domestic violence. Detectives arrested Andrew
Hoskinson on Sunday morning on a felony charges of Domestic Violence and Strangulation. The
Licking County Prosecutor’s Office would later include the charge of Attempted Murder.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 6:24pm, the victim succumbed to her injuries at Grant Medical
Center in Columbus. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to
determine the cause of death. The Licking County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for
further charges, pending the results of the autopsy. The victim is an organ donor, and the tragedy
of her death will provide hope to other lives in need.
