A new partnership between Mid-Ohio Adult Education and The Ohio State University at Mansfield aims to strengthen the pipeline of future educators serving school districts throughout north-central Ohio.
Education leaders say the collaboration will provide aspiring teachers and classroom professionals with additional pathways into the education field by combining workforce training with opportunities to continue their college education.
The initiative comes as many Ohio school districts continue to face teacher shortages in both urban and rural communities. Districts across Richland and surrounding counties have reported challenges filling classroom teaching positions, substitute teacher roles and specialized support positions.
Officials say the partnership is designed to remove barriers for prospective educators while encouraging more local residents to pursue careers in teaching.
Students participating in the program will have opportunities to build classroom experience, receive career guidance and transition into degree programs that prepare them for state licensure.
