Mount Vernon man killed in late‑night motorcycle crash

A 24‑year‑old Mount Vernon man was killed Saturday night after crashing a dirt bike on Walnut Alley, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Dylan Severns was riding northbound just before 11 p.m. when he left the roadway near the intersection of Sunset Street and struck a utility‑pole guy wire. A guy wire is a tensioned support cable commonly used to stabilize tall structures such as utility poles.

Severns was taken to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS, where he later died from his injuries. The patrol reported that he was not wearing a helmet.

Mount Vernon Police, city fire crews, and On the Spot Towing assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
