Lighting up the Fourth: Celebrating Independence at Ariel Foundation Park

As Americans favorite time of the year rolls around, the City of Mount Vernon is hard at work putting together their annual Fourth of July celebration. For firework setup and preparation, they will be closing the road through The Woods at 2pm. The fireworks will be set off manually this year instead of electronically to avoid any difficulties. Other roads that will be shut down at 2pm is the main road leading to the Schnormeier Event Center, only pedestrians and accessible parking will be allowed, as well as Pittsburgh Avenue from the Clock House parking lot to Seventh Avenue only allowing residential traffic. Columbus Road will be closed to southbound traffic at 9:30pm and will not reopen until the park clears after the fireworks. Finally, The Lakes Area gate at South Madison Avenue will be closed at 10pm.

Events will begin at 5pm, live music will be at the Schnormeier Event Center. McLennon, a Beatles tribute band, will open the concert series. Chaz and Nicki, an acoustic duo, will follow at 6pm; then the headliners Tom the Torpedoes, a Tom Petty and the Heartbreaks tribute band, will perform at 7pm. Alcohol is not permitted at the event but from 5-930pm the SEC will be serving alcoholic beverages that can be enjoyed in a designated area. Food trucks will also be in the park for those to enjoy but you are also welcome to bring a picnic.
