Knox County Property Owners Have Three Days to Review Tentative Property Values

Knox County property owners who believe their homes have been incorrectly valued have a limited opportunity this week to request an informal review before new assessments are finalized.

The Knox County Auditor’s Office is holding informal property value hearings July 29 through July 31, giving residents the chance to meet with appraisal staff, review their tentative valuations and provide documentation if they believe corrections should be made.

County Auditor John Burke is encouraging homeowners to first review their property’s information online to ensure basic details such as square footage, improvements and other characteristics are accurate before requesting a meeting. Officials say supporting documents—including recent appraisals, comparable home sales or photographs documenting property conditions—can help staff evaluate whether adjustments are appropriate.

The informal hearings are part of the county’s regular reappraisal process and offer residents an opportunity to resolve concerns before values become final.

While property valuations do not directly determine a homeowner’s tax bill, they are a significant factor in calculating future property taxes. Because of increasing home values throughout central Ohio in recent years, many residents have been paying closer attention to appraisal notices and assessment changes.

Officials emphasize that the informal review process is separate from filing a formal complaint with the Knox County Board of Revision. Homeowners who remain dissatisfied after the informal review process may still pursue additional appeal options available under Ohio law.

Appointments for the informal hearings are available through the Knox County Auditor’s Office, and tentative property values remain available for review on the county’s website.
