Knox County Commissioners Hear Update on Child Support System, EMS Funding and County Operations

Knox County commissioners tackled a wide range of county business during their most recent meeting, including updates on child support services, emergency medical funding and several infrastructure projects that could affect residents across the county.

One of the largest updates came from the Knox County Department of Job and Family Services, which reported on its transition to a standalone child support call center that began July 1. Officials told commissioners the change is designed to improve customer service by providing residents with more direct access to caseworkers and reducing wait times for assistance. The department said the new system allows staff to respond more efficiently to questions involving child support payments, enforcement and case management.

Commissioners also received updates on emergency medical services funding and ongoing efforts to maintain reliable emergency response throughout Knox County. Officials discussed grant opportunities and long-term planning as local governments continue working to address rising service costs and increasing demand for EMS resources.

In addition, county leaders reviewed routine financial matters, contracts and infrastructure projects moving through county government. Commissioners emphasized the importance of maintaining county services while planning for future growth and development throughout Knox County.

The meeting comes as county officials continue balancing day-to-day operations with larger issues such as economic development, infrastructure improvements and public safety initiatives.

The Knox County Board of Commissioners meets regularly to oversee county budgets, contracts and departmental operations, with agendas and meeting information available to the public through the county. Future meetings are expected to include additional updates on county projects and ongoing departmental initiatives.
