Amber Alert Cancelled After Child Found Safe

NEWARK, OHIO – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Newark Division of Police issued an
Amber Alert for Sewak Tiwari, 19, of Columbus, who had taken and threatened to harm a 1-
year-old child after a domestic incident in Newark. The Columbus Division of Police would later
locate the 2006 Gray Honda Pilot, and Mr. Tiwari with the child, unharmed. Mr. Tiwari was
arrested by Newark Detectives and transported to the Licking County Justice Center.

Newark Police first had contact with the mother of the child earlier in the day on
Thursday, when she reported a domestic dispute involving Sewak Tiwari. The mother believed
Mr. Tiwari was returning to his home with the child at that time. Mr. Tiwari would later begin to
make threats to harm the child and himself. In addition, Mr. Tiwari claimed he had removed the
license plates from his vehicle, to prevent police from finding him. Newark Detectives began to
investigate the matter and requested the Amber Alert be issued. Officers with the Columbus
Division of Police would later locate the Honda Pilot off Morse Rd. in Columbus. The Columbus
Police Officers soon located Mr. Tiwari and the Child at a hotel in that same area. The child was
found to be unharmed. Mr. Tiwari would be taken into custody without further incident, and later
turned over to detectives.

Newark Detectives will present the case to the Licking County Prosecutors Office for a
charge of Kidnapping. Newark Division of Police recognize and thank the Columbus Division of
Police and the various law enforcement agencies behind the scenes that helped bring this incident
to a safe resolution.
