Knox Public Health is preparing to offer a series of community vaccination clinics throughout September and October, giving Knox County residents additional opportunities to receive MMR and flu vaccinations.
The clinics come as health officials encourage residents to stay current on vaccinations, particularly with the new school year underway and the fall respiratory illness season approaching.
Flu clinics begin September 30
The first flu vaccination clinic will be held Wednesday, September 30, at the Centerburg Senior Center, beginning at 9 a.m.
Additional flu clinics are scheduled throughout October:
Friday, October 9: Fredericktown Library, 10 a.m. to noon
Thursday, October 15: Danville Sanctuary, 9 to 11 a.m.
Wednesday, October 21: Martinsburg Activity Center, 9 to 11 a.m.
Friday, October 23: Station Break in Mount Vernon, 9 to 11 a.m.
Flu vaccinations are available for adults and children six months of age and older.
Knox Public Health says Medicaid, Medicare and most insurance plans will be accepted. For those without insurance, the cost is $40 for a flu shot. Payment can be made by cash or check.
Those attending a clinic should bring a photo ID and their medical or insurance card. Appointments are preferred, although walk-ins will be accepted.
MMR clinics continue through October
Knox Public Health is also continuing its community measles, mumps and rubella vaccination clinics.
MMR clinics are scheduled Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. at Middlebury Township Hall through September 29, along with Thursday clinics at Danville Sanctuary through October 1.
The MMR vaccine is available to adults and children six months and older. The cost for those without insurance is currently $15, while Medicaid, Medicare and most insurance plans are accepted.
The continued MMR clinics come after Knox Public Health reported a confirmed measles case in the county earlier this month and worked with the Ohio Department of Health to identify potential exposures and promote vaccination.
Vaccinations available by appointment
Residents who cannot attend one of the community clinics, or parents looking to get children caught up on required back-to-school vaccinations, can schedule an appointment at the Knox County Community Health Center at 11660 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon.
Appointments can be made by calling 740-399-8008, option two.
Knox Public Health also says homebound residents who need vaccination assistance can contact Angela Fullington at 740-392-2200, extension 2304, or Lisa Dudgeon at 740-399-8003.
For Knox County residents preparing for the fall and winter months, the upcoming clinics provide several opportunities to get vaccinated without having to travel far from home.
