35 Year old arrested in Scam investigation in Newark

On February 12, 2025, the Licking County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after a local resident was scammed out of $24,000. The victim was led to believe that their identity was being used on the dark web and needed to “secure assets” to protect themselves from civil liability. The suspect arrived at the victim’s residence and took possession of the $24,000.

On February 14, 2025, detectives connected with the suspect and arranged a second transaction for $25,000. When the suspect arrived to collect the money, he was met by detectives who had been waiting for him.

Detectives arrested 35-year-old Anthony Bumpus of Newark, who is currently incarcerated at the Licking County Justice Center and being charged with felony theft.
