Owls finish day two in fourth at NCAA Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Kenyon College women’s swimming and diving team had a relatively light day at Greensboro Aquatics Center, competing in just three of five event finals on Thursday. After packing a highly competitive and closely contested 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship field on day one, the Owls finished in fourth place at the midway mark.

Kenyon is in the thick of a five-team cluster at the top of the standings. New York University jumped from fourth to first following a big second day, and NYU paces the field with 242 points. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (216) secured second for a second straight day, while Denison University (175), Kenyon (173), and Emory University (172) are separated by the slimmest of margins.

Despite not being represented in the 400-yard individual medley’s championship final, the Owls maintained their hold on first place through the first event. Jordan Herrera and Ashlyn Widmer went back-to-back in the consolation final, finishing second and third, respectively, in the race to help add 13 points to Kenyon’s score. Overall, the duo placed 10th and 11th as Herrera (4:23.85) secured her sixth All-America award while Widmer (4:24.11) became a first-time All-American. Herrera’s time set a season-best for the Owls.

The next race, the 100-yard butterfly, shook up the standings as Kenyon’s best preliminary finisher, Celia Ford (55.59) came in outside of the top 16 scoring times. With no Owls in the evening session, Kenyon’s five-point lead turned into a 34-point deficit, with the Owls dropping down to fourth in the closely contested standings.

Molly Haag helped Kenyon get back on track in the 200-yard freestyle with the best finish in her NCAA Championship career. The junior secured silver with a time of 1:48.43, a personal-best mark that was just 0.13 seconds off the Kenyon record. Haag hauled in her 10th All-America award in 11 NCAA Championship swims, while Bengisu Caymaz, who swam in the consolation final, corralled her sixth All-America award in as many championship swims. Caymaz paced the B final and finished ninth overall at 1:49.16.

The duo helped the Owls get back on the podium in third, though Kenyon still faced a 54-point deficit heading into the diving break. Without any divers in the field, Kenyon’s next and final event was the 200-yard freestyle relay, and the Owls were tied for fourth heading into the evening finale.

Gwen Eisenbeis, Jennah Fadely, Sydney Geboy, and Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault stepped up to the blocks for the Owls, and the quartet finished fourth in a field where the second- and sixth-best finishes were separated by about half a second. Kenyon’s time of 1:31.92 marked a season-best for the Owls and gave Kenyon sole possession of fourth at the end of day two. For Fadely, the All-America finish put the senior in rare company as she became the 24th Kenyon woman with 20 or more career All-America awards.

Though the Owls are in a 69-point hole at the midway mark, Kenyon has plenty of chances to pile up points over the next two days. Friday’s schedule starts with preliminary heats at 10 a.m. ahead of the 6 p.m. finals session.
