Scam Warning: Fake Arrest-Warrant Calls Targeting Knox County Residents

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a growing arrest‑warrant phone scam. Callers are impersonating deputies, claiming you missed a court appearance and now face immediate arrest. They may even send fake federal court documents, sometimes naming Judge Richard Wetzel, and pressure you to make a payment at a kiosk while keeping you on the phone. Authorities stress this is a scam. Law enforcement and the courts will never demand payment by phone, threaten instant arrest, or order you not to speak to anyone. If you receive one of these calls, hang up, don’t send money, and don’t click any links. Incidents can be reported to local law enforcement and the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
