LICKING COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT RECEIVES $55,000 FOR SAFETY TRAFFIC GRANT

Licking County Health Commissioner, Chad Brown, announced today the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s (ODPS) Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) awarded $55,000 for federal traffic safety funding to the Licking County Health Department (LCHD) for federal fiscal year (FFY) 2025.  The traffic safety grant funds are passed through OTSO from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The purpose of the funds is to support the efforts of safety partners statewide and focus on traffic safety priority areas such as seat belt use, impaired driving, motorcycle safety, distracted driving, and youthful drivers. LCHD’s Safe Communities Program uses the awarded funds to promote traffic safety through education and raising awareness throughout the community. To save lives and make roads safer in Licking County, LCHD will use the grant funds to provide school presentations, interact with the community, and distribute traffic safety materials and education. The Safe Communities Program has a coalition that includes local law enforcement agencies, emergency personnel, county engineers, and community members who meet quarterly to collaborate efforts and resources toward decreasing motor vehicle crashes and fatalities in Licking County. Anyone with an interest in traffic safety is welcome to attend the coalition meetings. Please email Nadia Ahmed at nahmed@lickingcohealth.org if you are interested in participating.   For more information about the Ohio Traffic Safety Office and statewide efforts to improve safety on Ohio’s roadways, visit http://ohiohighwaysafetyoffice.ohio.gov/.
