A two-year pavement reconstruction project began earlier this year on Interstate 70 west of Columbus. The major roadway rehabilitation will replace pavement on I-70 between the Madison County Line and Hilliard Rome Road.Beginning Tuesday, May 20, I-70 eastbound traffic will be shifted to the westbound side of the roadway. Two lanes will be maintained in each direction while crews reconstruct the eastbound pavement. This traffic pattern will remain in place through the end of 2025. In 2026, traffic will shift to the eastbound side while crews rebuild the westbound lanes.Lane restrictions will be in place for the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in summer 2027. Reducing the number of lanes allows both directions of traffic to be maintained throughout construction. This approach allows crews to rebuild the roadway without active traffic in the work zone, improving safety for both drivers and workers. This stretch of I-70 carries more than 74,000 vehicles per day. ODOT urges drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and stay alert for changing traffic patterns.

All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.
