Grocery Outlet Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: GO) (“Grocery Outlet” or the “Company”), a high-growth, extreme value retailer of quality, name-brand consumables and fresh products, today announced its Ontario, Ohio store has officially opened.
Ontario entrepreneurs Ryan and Maria Buchanan will lead the location as the store’s Independent Operators.
Grocery Outlet Chief New Store Growth Officer, Layla Kasha, said, “We are so excited to be expanding Grocery Outlet’s footprint with our new location in Ontario. We couldn’t ask for better operators than Ryan and Maria. If you’ve never been to a Grocery Outlet before, we are looking forward to getting to know you and providing you and your family with new options for high-quality, affordable produce, meat and groceries. And if you’re familiar with us, we can’t wait to surprise you with something new.”
Grocery Outlet has more than 500 stores across a large swath of the United States. The company uses an opportunistic buying model to surprise and delight shoppers with unexpected and rare finds in addition to providing great fresh produce and meats they expect from their neighborhood grocery store.
The company estimates this business model can save shoppers as much as 60% over conventional grocery stores, on average, according to the company’s website.
In 1973, Grocery Outlet’s founder, Jim Read, signed the first Operator agreement on a napkin. Since then, the company has relied on Independent Operators like Ryan and Maria to grow the company nationwide and helped hundreds of potential operators achieve their professional and financial goals.
Independent Operators have considerable local decision-making autonomy over store operations including hiring, merchandising, and marketing and share their profits and the risks of doing business with the national company. In return, the company provides its Independent Operators with training and mentorship and the support of marketing, finance, and accounting professionals when needed. Because of this model, each Grocery Outlet location offers shoppers different items.
