Fredericktown Hires Police and Gets Large Grant

FREDERICKTOWN – The Fredericktown Village Council passed several resolutions in its meeting on Monday night in Fredericktown, including one to add to the police force and one to help buy and sell city vehicles.  It was also announced that the village had received a sizable grant to help pay for a water project.

The council of Ray Brewer, Chris Cline, Rick Lanuzza, Scott McKnight, Sabrina Pugh and Ryan Shoemaker along with mayor Jerry Day approved the hiring of a new police officer in Fredericktown.  The new patrolman would bring the total number of the force to five officers, one lieutenant and the new chief, Jay Sheffer, who began his tenure three weeks ago.

Among other items discussed, the council also passed an ordinance adopting a cybersecurity policy for the village; a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement with ADR Innovation for review of the design work on the South Main Streetscape Project and a resolution approving of the selling of city vehicles on govdeals.com in order to purchase another one.

Village Administrator Bruce Snell added that the village was awarded a grant of $900,000 to help complete the Phase II portion of the Water Infrastructure Improvements in the village.

Snell also shared an emailed letter from a resident who commended the work of Service Department Foreman Matt Thompson, who, while attending to a water problem, had taken extra care and concern with a nearby gas main.  Due to Thompson’s due diligence, she felt compelled to share her praise for his work.
