Food For The Hungry is awarding 12 Summer Grants totaling $30,500 to organizations across Knox County working to combat food insecurity during the summer months.
The FFTH Summer Grant program was created in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown after increased awareness surrounding child hunger and food access. Officials say between 30 and 40 percent of Knox County students rely on school breakfast and lunch programs during the academic year, leaving many families vulnerable during summer break.
Recipients of $5,000 are First Church of the Nazarene East Knox Food Bags and First Church of the Nazarene Father’s Table Pantry and Hot Meal.
Grants of $2,500 were awarded to Central Christian Church Food Pantry, Church on the Rise Food Pantry, Covenant Church Food Pantry, Martinsburg Activity Center and The Escape Zone – EZ Diner. Grants of $2,000 were awarded to Knox County Transit, Mount Vernon Seventh-Day Adventist Hill Church, and The Salvation Army. Grants of $1,000 were awarded to Afterglow Christian Mission House, and CHOMP Ministries.
This year’s grants will support local food pantries, hot meal programs, summer lunch initiatives, and transportation assistance for food-insecure residents.
Food For The Hungry says the grants were made possible thanks to strong community support during the 2025 Drive, which raised more than $394,000 — exceeding the campaign goal by over $50,000. Officials say the extra funding allowed the organization to expand this year’s summer grant program and continue supporting hunger relief efforts throughout Knox County.
