The Delaware Fire Department responded to 613 calls for service in August 2025, bringing the year-to-date total to 4,902 responses – an increase of 0.84 percent over the same period last year. Crews averaged 20 calls per day, with a single day high of 30.
Emergency medical services accounted for the majority of calls (422), followed by false alarms (90) and service calls (50). Firefighters responded to seven fires, including two major incidents on August 9: a mobile home fire on S. Sandusky Street and a building fire on Fairway Road, both resulting in damages exceeding $10,000. Another building fire occurred on Woodrow Avenue on August 25.
During August, DFD arrived on-scene within six minutes 70.85% of the time, averaging a response time of 5 minutes and 19 seconds. The department also recorded 289 patient transports and more than 1,200 hours of training.
Severe weather played a role this month: on August 13, a thunderstorm generated 11 separate calls for power lines down across the northeast section of the city.
Community engagement remained a priority, with firefighters participating in First Friday, Touch-a-Truck events, fire extinguisher training at Ohio Wesleyan University, and a smoke detector installation on Simon Street.
Fire losses for the month totaled $21,000, bringing the annual total to $850,814. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
“The numbers tell part of the story, but what stands out is the dedication of our team, balancing emergency response, prevention, and community outreach,” Fire Chief Tim Pyle said.
