March 4, 2025 –Dorian Hight, a 21-year-old Columbus man, pleaded guilty on March 3, 2025 to Kidnapping (a felony of the first degree), Strangulation (a felony of the third degree), Domestic Violence (a felony of the third degree), Violating a Protection Order (a felony of the third degree), and 6 additional counts of Violating a Protection Order (all felonies of the fifth degree).
The charges stemmed from an August 2024 investigation where Columbus Police arrested Hight for Strangulation. From the time he was placed into custody, Hight repeatedly violated a protection order by contacting the victim.
Judge James P. Schuck sentenced Hight to a total 13-16.5 years in prison Tuesday.
“The power and control exerted on victims by perpetrators like Mr. Hight doesn’t cease to exist even when they are behind bars. However, perseverance by victims and prosecutors will always outlast the power and control of perpetrators like Mr. Hight. Today, perseverance wins.” Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel said.
