City Receives Auditor of State Award with Distinction

The City of Delaware has been honored with the prestigious Auditor of State Award with Distinction. This award places Delaware in an elite group, as fewer than 4 percent of the approximately 4,200 entities audited annually by the Auditor’s office earn this recognition.

The Auditor of State Award with Distinction is granted to local governments, school districts, and other public entities that meet stringent criteria for a “clean” audit. To qualify, entities must file timely financial reports using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and prepare a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Additionally, the audit report must be free of findings for recovery, material citations, weaknesses, deficiencies, or questioned costs.

Entities receiving the award must also have no comments regarding ethics violations, bank reconciliation issues, public records or meeting concerns, or failure to meet audit guidance requirements.

“This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire City of Delaware staff,” Delaware City Manager Paul Brake said. “It reflects the commitment of our Council, administration, and Finance Department to maintaining the highest standards of fiscal responsibility.”

Special recognition was accorded Finance Director Rob Alger for his commitment to fiscal integrity.

“His professionalism has played a key role in achieving this honor, ensuring that the City has the people and processes in place to uphold strong financial accountability,” the Auditor’s Office said.
