Independence Day celebrations are set to light up Knox County as communities prepare for a full schedule of fireworks, live entertainment and family activities celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
Mount Vernon’s largest celebration will once again take place at Ariel-Foundation Park on Saturday, July 4. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. at the Schnormeier Event Center with live music from Backroad Divas and Linden and Melvin, followed by the Highwaymen Show Tribute at 7:30 p.m. The evening concludes with the City of Mount Vernon’s fireworks display at 10 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets while enjoying food vendors and a free evening of entertainment.
Fredericktown’s annual Independence Day celebration returns to Sockman Lake on July 4 with activities beginning early in the morning. The day includes a softball tournament, vendors, food trucks, a car show and live music from Side Effects and The Broken Spokes before fireworks begin at dusk.
Residents of Apple Valley will celebrate with the community’s third annual boat parade on Friday, July 3, beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the association’s annual fireworks display at dusk on July 4. The celebration is open to Apple Valley property owners and their guests.
Utica will kick off the holiday a little early with its Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, July 1, at South End Park. The free event begins at 5 p.m. and includes live music, food trucks, bounce houses and fireworks after dark as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.
With fireworks, concerts, family activities and community festivals taking place throughout the county, organizers encourage residents to arrive early, expect heavier traffic near event venues and celebrate safely during the Independence Day holiday.
