Knox County Commissioners Approve Maintenance Assessments, Grants, Annexation Request

The Knox County Board of Commissioners moved through a brief agenda during its April 7 meeting, approving several routine assessments and key administrative items.

Commissioners signed off on annual levy maintenance assessments for the Little Jelloway water and sewer districts. This year’s costs include a fourteen‑dollar assessment for water facilities and a five‑dollar assessment for sewer facilities, based on current fund balances.

Two grant applications for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office also received approval. The board authorized the Project Safe Neighborhoods grant application, along with a body‑worn camera grant intended to support ongoing equipment needs within the department.

A major item of the morning involved a fifty‑six‑acre expedited Type 2 annexation from Hilliar Township to the Village of Centerburg for the Whistle Stop Properties development. With both the township and the village consenting, commissioners approved the petition as required under state law.

Construction updates rounded out the meeting. Work on the county’s new transit facility is progressing following an initial walkthrough, with adjustments underway for ADA access and elevator plans. Modern Builders continues active work on the site, while crosswalk improvements at the front and rear of the building are moving forward in coordination with the city.

The board also noted that the Front Porch Concert Series will kick off Friday at the Woodward as the community heads into its spring event season.
