Grant Bell, the last individual charged in connection with the Columbus Zoo misuse of funds scandal, has pleaded guilty to theft, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
Grant Bell, formerly a purchasing agent at the Columbus Zoo and son of the zoo’s former Chief Financial Officer Greg Bell, entered his guilty plea, marking the conclusion of legal proceedings involving five individuals implicated in the scandal. Alongside Bell, former CEO Tom Stalf, former marketing director Pete Fingerhut, and former purchasing agent Tracy Murnane have also admitted guilt in their roles in a scheme that defrauded the zoo of over two million dollars.
The charges against the group stem from allegations that they engaged in fraudulent activities during their tenures at the zoo, resulting in significant financial losses. Despite their guilty pleas, sentencing for Bell and the others has yet to be determined.
The Columbus Zoo, a prominent institution known for its conservation efforts and public engagement, has been under scrutiny since allegations of financial mismanagement surfaced. The case underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in nonprofit organizations entrusted with public funds.
Authorities continue to monitor developments as the legal process moves forward, aiming to ensure justice and restitution for the misused funds.
