The Mount Gilead High School Football team has been an amazing story this season as the best year is school history has unfolded and another opportunity awaits Friday Night on the road in Loudonville. Head Coach Mike Reid knows this is a special group and he made a call out on social media for the fans to come out to cheer on his team against a tough Redbirds squad.
The Indians have the 5th highest scoring offense in the KMAC and their defense is second to only Centerburg in points per game allowed while allowing the fewest rushing yards per game in the league at just 3 yards per carry allowed. Defensively the Indians have the top 6 players in the conference in tackles for loss, their running back Carson Barnum is second in the KMAC in rushing at 1,307 yards rushing and 13 rushing scores this season. Jacob Wilt and Tyler Harr have combined for an additonal over 600 yards rushing this season with 6 rushing scores. Quarterback Cole Fricke adds 4 more rushing touchdowns. The Indians use a powerful offensive line to push around opponents and contribute to the success of the run game.
The Indians are 7-1 just like Centerburg and Fredericktown and sit just a game back of the Trojans in the KMAC with Centerburg set to take on the Bulldogs of East Knox tonight.
The Indians last winning season was a 6-4 year in 2022 but this year is special and the team is asking for the community to continue to support the team as they chase a league title.
The Indians are currently sitting second in the Division 6 Region 23 playoffs behind Centerburg in the Computer Rankings.
