Study Examines Governance Options for Delaware Airport

An Airport Assessment and Governance Options Analysis of the Delaware Municipal Airport was prepared by the Aviation Management Consulting Group for the City of Delaware and Delaware County.

The airport is owned by the City of Delaware, which acts as the sponsor for all state and federal grants. The airport, located at 1075 Pittsburgh Drive, sits on 325 acres of land. The single runway measures 5,800 feet in length. Approximately 40,000 flight operations take place annually. Both public and private hanger spaces are available for rent.

The City and County have been in discussions about the feasibility of a regional authority oversight structure.

In its draft findings, AMCG emphasized the importance of strategic planning, financial sustainability, stakeholder collaboration and the adoption of an airport authority governance structure. Advantages included long-term success, a regional service focus and economic benefits.
