WQIO Ohio's Super Station
Six new single-family homes are planned for Shelby as part of an effort to expand attainable homeownership opportunities in northern Richland County.
The Richland County Land Bank is partnering with Community Building Partners and Unibilt to construct the homes using funding from the Ohio Department of Development’s Welcome Home Ohio program.
Each home will be sold for $200,000 to buyers who meet the program’s income requirements.
One house will be constructed at 24 Oak Street, while five additional homes will be built on adjoining lots along Second Street.
The two-story homes will each include approximately 1,300 square feet, three bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with a washer, dryer, dishwasher, range, refrigerator and microwave. The homes will also include front porches, unfinished basements and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.
Eligible buyers must earn no more than 120 percent of the area’s median income, obtain mortgage preapproval, live in the home for at least three years, accept a 15-year deed restriction and complete a financial literacy course.
The Land Bank will hold an informational meeting for prospective buyers October 3rd at 10 a.m. at Shelby City Hall.
