Minimum Requirements

  • Ages 18–39
  • U.S. Citizen
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ohio residency upon graduation
  • Arm tattoos permitted (must be covered by long-sleeve uniform)

Cadet Candidate Program (Ages 18–20)

Not yet 21? Start your law enforcement career early through the Cadet Candidate Program. This paid opportunity allows candidates to gain real-world experience while preparing for the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy.

Program Highlights

  • Paid, on-the-job training at a local patrol post
  • Uniforms provided
  • Paid time off
  • Eligible candidates may enter the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy within 6 months of turning 21

This program is ideal for young adults who are motivated, service-oriented, and ready to begin building a future in public safety.
