Ohio’s annual tax-free holiday, which began in 2019 to aid families with back-to-school shopping, is coming up soon and this year it lasts over a week. The tax-free holiday will start at midnight on July 30th and continue until 11:59 p.m. on August 8th.
This year, the holiday applies to up to $500 worth of merchandise per item. Families are expected to spend around $875 on back-to-school items, which is slightly down from last year’s record of $890. The increase in spending is largely due to the growing need for electronic school supplies.
It’s important to note that certain items are not eligible for tax exemption under this holiday, such as boats, motor vehicles, tobacco, and alcohol. However, as long as each individual item on a receipt is $500 or less, it qualifies for the tax-free benefit.
