The demolition of the long-vacant West Park Shopping Center is getting closer, with nine companies submitting bids for the project.
The Richland County Land Bank opened the bids Tuesday as it moves toward selecting a contractor to tear down the former shopping center. The proposals ranged from approximately $896,000 to $3.2 million, giving the Land Bank several options to consider before awarding the contract.
The West Park property has sat vacant for years and has become one of the more prominent redevelopment challenges in Mansfield.
The Land Bank is now reviewing the submitted bids and will determine which company will handle the demolition work.
The eventual demolition would clear the property for future redevelopment and remove a long-standing vacant commercial structure from the area.
Officials have not yet announced which company will receive the contract or when demolition is expected to begin.
The project represents another step in the city’s broader efforts to address vacant and deteriorating properties while creating opportunities for future investment.
The Land Bank’s decision is expected to be the next major milestone in determining when the former shopping center will finally come down.
