Madison Local School District voters will decide in November whether to renew two existing property taxes that provide funding for the district.
The 14.4-mill levy renewal will appear on the November 3 ballot and, if approved, would continue for five years beginning in 2027, with the first collection scheduled for 2028.
Superintendent Rob Peterson discussed the renewal during Monday night’s school board meeting, emphasizing that the measure is a renewal rather than a new tax. If approved, homeowners would continue paying the existing taxes rather than seeing an increase associated with the levy itself.
Peterson also told board members that even with the levy renewal, the district will likely need to make approximately $300,000 in cuts before the next school year.
The district’s financial situation was discussed alongside the latest state report card results. Madison Local Schools received an overall four-star rating on the state’s report card.
The levy provides an important source of operating revenue for the district as school officials work to balance educational needs with rising costs and changes in state funding.
Because the measure is a renewal, voters are being asked to continue the existing funding rather than approve an additional tax.
The November election will determine whether the levy remains in place for another five-year period.
