Knox Community Lab Receives Clinical Affiliate Award

The Knox Community Hospital Lab team received The Ohio State University’s Clinical Affiliate Award. This award is granted for participating in the OSU Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program, which has up to 36 students who shadow and learn all aspects of the lab area for six weeks at multiple hospitals. The award winner is selected based on the students’ votes and reviews of their documented experiences.

KCH has been involved in this shadowing program since 2012 and has partnered with several MLT (Medical Lab Technologist) and MLS programs to teach students through clinicals. Lab MLS/MLT programs are very small and specialized, which allows KCH opportunities to find new employees in the process. It also allows our team to keep up with the latest information with students and highlight our team’s abilities, as most of our team members are generalists and are certified to work in every area of the lab.

Kari Baker, Interim Director, states, “I just want to give a shout out to my team. They are always willing to teach the next generation of techs, but also always willing to learn. We have a wonderful group of people who care deeply about our patients and our professional field.”
