The Granville Township Fire Department is celebrating the arrival of a new piece of equipment while also honoring a longtime tradition.
Firefighters recently gathered to push the department’s new ladder truck into its firehouse, continuing a tradition that accompanies the arrival of new apparatus.
The department shared the celebration Monday as firefighters welcomed the new truck into service. The ceremony brought together current members, including three new firefighters, as the department marked both the new equipment and the people joining its ranks.
The ladder truck will give Granville Township firefighters additional capabilities when responding to structure fires and other emergencies requiring aerial operations.
Large apparatus such as ladder trucks are particularly important for incidents involving multi-story buildings, allowing firefighters to reach elevated portions of a structure and provide additional firefighting and rescue capabilities.
The arrival comes as Granville and surrounding Licking County communities continue to experience growth, increasing the demands placed on local emergency-service agencies.
For firefighters, the traditional push into the station also provides an opportunity to recognize the people and community support behind the department’s equipment.
The department’s newest members joined veteran firefighters for the ceremony, combining a longstanding fire-service tradition with the beginning of a new chapter for the department.
