Charitable University Returning to Knox County in November

The Knox County Foundation is once again partnering with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to bring Charitable University to Knox County, offering free training for nonprofit board members and leaders.

The training is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ramser 4-H Center at the Knox County Fairgrounds.

Charitable University is designed to give nonprofit leaders practical information and resources to help them effectively serve their organizations. Topics will include board governance and policies, financial reporting and internal controls, fundraising, government filings and recordkeeping, and charitable gaming and bingo. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office says the program is intended to help charity leaders understand their legal responsibilities and strengthen nonprofit governance.

“Strong nonprofit organizations depend on informed, engaged leaders,” said Lisa Lloyd, Senior Program Director at Knox County Foundation. “We’re pleased to bring Charitable University back to Knox County and give both new and experienced board members an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and better serve their organizations.”

The Knox County Foundation first brought the program to the area in November 2022, when more than 100 people participated.

Austin Swallow, board chair of Food for the Hungry and a past participant, said he found the training valuable even after having served on nonprofit boards for years.

Participants who complete Charitable University receive a completion certificate from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Certification is valid for three years, meaning people who completed the program in 2022 are now eligible to recertify.

A light breakfast and coffee will be available from 8:30 to 9 a.m., with training beginning at 9.

Registration is required by Friday, November 6. Additional information and registration are available through the Knox County Foundation.

The Knox County Foundation has supported charitable and community initiatives throughout Knox County for more than 80 years, including education, youth services, health, arts and culture, social services, and civic and community development.
