Danville FFA Students Post Strong Results at District and State Competitions

Danville FFA students are celebrating strong results in two recent agricultural competitions.

The chapter’s Soils Team, along with its Urban and Rural Soils teams, finished in the top ten at the District Seven Career Development Event. Students were evaluated on their ability to identify soil horizons, determine soil texture and structure, calculate slope and assess other soil characteristics.

The Danville FFA also sent a forestry team to the state competition at Hocking College. Jaxon and Brooklyn Bruff finished 23rd in Ohio as a duo in the State Forestry Career Development Event.

Competitors in the forestry event were tested on skills including tree and species identification, calculating merchantable timber, reading topographic maps and navigating a compass course.

The results continue a strong stretch for Knox County agricultural education programs. East Knox FFA recently finished fourth in the state agricultural soils competition, giving local FFA chapters several strong finishes at the state and district levels.
