Mount Vernon City Council has a full agenda for its Monday, June 22 meeting, with several major development and infrastructure proposals scheduled for discussion before the legislative session begins at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Committee meetings begin at 6:20 p.m. and will focus on housing incentives, economic development, police staffing and urban renewal initiatives.
Among the largest items before council is the proposed Arista Villas residential development. Council members will consider several resolutions and ordinances related to creating incentive districts, expanding the Mount Vernon New Community Authority District, and establishing tax increment financing agreements to support the project. According to documents included in the agenda packet, the proposed development would include approximately 100 single-family homes on nearly 40 acres along Vernonview Road, with an emphasis on entry-level and affordable housing. Plans also include new streets, sidewalks, water and sewer infrastructure, and pedestrian connections.
Council will also consider a resolution to designate several city-owned parcels as an Urban Renewal Area, allowing the city to seek proposals from qualified firms to prepare a comprehensive urban renewal plan for future redevelopment. City officials say the designation is intended to begin the planning process for revitalization efforts within the designated area.
Public safety is also on Monday’s agenda. Council will review Ordinance 2026-25, which would adjust the authorized number of hourly employees in the Mount Vernon Police Department. The proposal will be discussed during the Employee and Community Relations Committee meeting before receiving its second reading during the legislative session.
Several financial matters are also scheduled for consideration, including supplemental appropriations, “then and now” bill certifications, fund changes within the city budget, and authorization to dispose of surplus police department vehicles no longer needed for public use.
Council is expected to vote on resolutions authorizing lease agreements for city-owned property at 9 and 9½ East High Street, including revised lease arrangements for existing tenant Bo Lacey and additional space for Advocates for Children.
The June 22 legislative session begins at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Mount Vernon Municipal Building, 236 South Main Street. The meeting will also be streamed live on the City’s YouTube channel.
