MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s basketball team (11-9, 6-4 CL) defeated Taylor University (11-9, 4-6 CL) by a score of 89-81 in overtime on Wednesday evening, January 18 in Ariel Arena.
The Lady Cougars jumped out on top of the Trojans and led by as much as 14 points in the first half. At the break, the hosts led 43-31 and it felt like MVNU was in complete control of the game. In the early second half, the Lady Cougars led by 14 and continued to hold the visitors at bay.
However, Taylor would mount a furious comeback as they took full advantage of MVNU missed shots and turnovers. With less than a minute left, Taylor hit a three-pointer and took a two-point lead. With 19 seconds on the clock, MVNU got the ball back on a five-second violation and gave the ball to one of their best scorers. With just ten seconds remaining, Angela Roshak drove to the basket and made the game-tying layup.
In overtime, Emily Walker scored seven of MVNU’s 13 points to help her team pull out the overtime victory over Taylor. The victory was MVNU’s second against the Trojans in the last week. This marks the first time in program history that MVNU has swept the regular season series against Taylor.

Roshak led the team with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The freshman also had three blocks and two steals.
Madelyn Lawson scored 16 points and hauled in seven rebounds. She also had two steals and two blocks.
Peyton Davis had 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists off the bench.
Maggie Coe had 11 points and three assists on the game.
Sage Brannon scored nine points, had four assists, and three steals. Brannon reached 1,000career points on the night.

MVNU is back in action on Saturday, January 21 as they travel to Indianapolis, Indiana and No. 6 Marian University. Tip-off is at 1:00pm.
