Kenyon women tied for first after NCAC first day

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Kenyon College women’s swimming and diving team split event wins with host Denison University on Wednesday, the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship being held over a four-day span at Trumbull Aquatics Center.

There were just two relays on the schedule for Wednesday. The Big Red opened with a win in the 800-yard freestyle, taking the top spot by approximately two seconds over the Kenyon foursome that clocked in at 7:19.69. The Owls’ team consisted of Molly Haag, Jennah Fadely, Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault and Bengisu Caymaz.

In Wednesday’s other relay, the 200-yard medley, Kenyon answered Denison. The Owls sent out Caleigh Wukitch, Fadely, Celia Ford and Sydney Geboy. That group put up a winning time of 1:40.94 to out-touch Denison, which took second place in 1:40.97.

The balanced results between Kenyon and Denison left the teams tied for first place with 132 points apiece. DePauw University and The College of Wooster were tied for third with 118 points in the eight-team field.

Day two of the championship meet will get underway tomorrow with preliminary heats at 9:30 a.m. and final heats starting at 6:00 p.m.
