Bar-Cohen’s big game garners NCAC’s weekly award

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A couple of days after leading the Kenyon College men’s basketball team to an 81-70 win over Hiram College in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) clash, Gefen Bar-Cohen represented the Owls as the NCAC’s offensive Athlete of the Week.

Bar-Cohen corralled his first career Athlete of the Week honor after posting one of his season’s best games. The junior tallied a game-high 23 points in 28 minutes, his sixth game with 20-plus this year. He shot a sizzling 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from the floor and knocked down five free throws.

Outside of scoring, the forward matched a game-best with 10 rebounds, including a game-leading three on the offensive glass, notching his third double-double of the season. He added a season-high three steals and dished out an assist to round out the big day.

With the forward leading the way, Kenyon shot 54.5 percent, 30-of-55, from the field and scored 54 points in the paint. After the Terriers pulled within six late in the game, Bar-Cohen slammed the door shut with a resounding dunk at the one-minute mark to clinch Kenyon’s victory.

Bar-Cohen and the Owls will be back in business on Wednesday, January 31, when Wabash College comes to Gambier. Tipoff between the Owls and Little Giants is set for 6 p.m. in Tomsich Arena.
